Student with art workThe kindergarten students read the story of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar," by Eric Carle. After reading and discussing the story, we examined the artwork in the book, otherwise known as illustrations.

Erica Carle is not only the author of his stories, but also the illustrator, which is unusual for most children's authors.

The students painted a grassy background, and scratched the paint with textures, designs and some even added little flowers and insects!

After the pain was dry, the next step was to create a caterpillar using the collage technique. Students were encouraged to decorate the caterpillar's face and body, inspired by Eric Carle's, or put their own creative stamp on it, giving each caterpillar its own personality.

The finishing touch, and probably the most enjoyable one, was punching holes in leaves, making it look like the caterpillar had a feast!

Congratulations to Arianna, one of the designs that was completed with craftsmanship at every step. Her artwork is on display in the office.
