Two adults with student holding certificateOn May 22, 2018, Ella Olson, a student at Jack Harvey Elementary school, was awarded one of the grand prizes from the Meemic Masterpieces art contest by the John Burke agency.

John Burke delivered the prize personally, a Chromebook laptop. He also awarded a $300 classroom grant to the art teacher, Mr. Matthias Krenzer.

“I was excited to have a winner chosen from our school. When I first saw Ella’s artwork, I knew she had a chance to win,” said Mr. Krenzer. “She painted an enormous tree, wrote a beautiful quote in the sky, and used different colors of duct tape to create added textures and layers of color.”

The contest encouraged students create artwork that addressed a theme in one of three categories: cultural diversity, anti-bullying, and kindness to others.

“She should be very proud of herself. There were a lot of entries in this contest, and hers was among the best,” said Mr. Burke.
